WTB small motor

Postby Rickbaro » Tue Feb 07, 2012 3:44 pm

Need a small-ish motor to run a 4" Delta jointer. 1/2 HP would be good. Vintage, coolness, or unique-ness not big factors; it will be enclosed. Just wouldn't want to shock anybody with a Harbor Freight if they happened to open it though.

I almost bought that yellow band saw the other day just for the motor, but the picture showed the capacitor taped onto the body, and I kind of shied away from it.

What, don't they make magic motors that somehow know how to adapt to what I need?? Jeez.

CCW, single phase, it could be 3450 or 1725, I'll correct the speed at the cutter with pulleys. Not sure of the frame size, I'm putting into a tight space, so a long motor may not work. Ideally the body of the motor wold be no more than 6" (not including shaft) That sounds small but a 1/3 or 1/2 shouldn’t be too big anyway.

I'm in the design stage so I can be open.

I have a few to choose from. Stop by when you are in the 'hood.

I found one. It was that Craftsman DP that showed up the other day for $35. I figure I'll sell a couple parts off it and keep the motor.
